21 March 2025: In Tuscany’s serene Maremma countryside, Castello di Vicarello reopens for the season today under the guidance of the Baccheschi-Berti brothers, stewards of the region’s cultural and agricultural riches. The 12th-century family owned castle featuring 10 suites celebrates the 2025 season with a new villa, immersive food and wine retreats and new experiences for guests to indulge in the estate’s historic charm and warm Italian hospitality.
12th CENTURY WATCHTOWER – VILLA LA VEDETTA’S DEBUT
Brand new for 2025, Castello di Vicarello will unveil Villa La Vedetta. Historically a 12th-century watchtower, the building has been meticulously restored to transform it into a private villa. Spanning over 2,000 square feet, with over four stories of living space, the new villa features spectacular views of both the castle and onsite vineyards. It will be home to two elegant suites, each with ensuite bathrooms adorned in marble, featuring a custom-made free-standing copper bathtub, and black-and-white checkered marble floors. The ground floor will boast a grand fireplace, and a fully equipped kitchen that opens into a winter garden. Guests can expect a real sense of exclusivity and privacy within the villa’s nearly 5,000 square feet of private gardens, rooftop terrace, and a private heated swimming pool. Guests can opt for an in-house chef service ahead of their stay, as well as enjoy access to the wider estate’s facilities and experiences, allowing for the ultimate retreat, with all the convenience of a hotel stay.
TOSCO FOOD & WINE RETREAT
Following their debut in 2024, Castello di Vicarello’s Tosco Food & Wine Retreat will return in October 2025 with a host of immersive events, offering insight into the fascinating Tuscan way of life, centered around Castello’s ‘farm to fork’ ethos. Guests have the opportunity to discover the region’s rich culinary heritage and savor a taste of Maremman culture – through dinners with some of the region’s most renowned Michelin-starred chefs and winemakers, alongside foraging and interactive cooking classes. Highlights from the program include a visit to the Buriano Estate to meet the ‘Butteri,’ Maremman cowboys who are preserving this storied tradition, foraging and hunting in the Tuscan Forest followed by an interactive cooking class discovering classic Tuscan dishes. Wine tastings will feature prominently with a showcase of the finest Castello di Vicarello wines.
HAND CRAFTED STAYS
Guests of Castello di Vicarello have access to an impressive range of experiences that naturally immerse them into Tuscan living. The expertise of the Baccheschi-Berti family seamlessly allows for traditional cooking classes in the estate’s open kitchen – utilizing home-grown ingredients from the organic vegetable garden – as well as scenic wine tastings that invite guests to savor the award-winning organic wines from grapes grown and harvested at the estate. Guests can further explore the region by foot, e-bike or by the property’s own vintage car, with an abundance of local experiences right on the property’s doorstep.
A FAMILY LEGACY
Taking on their most impressive design project to date, Carolo and Aurora Baccheschi-Berti relocated their three sons to Tuscany’s Maremma region in the 1980s to meticulously restore Castello di Vicarello. Eldest son & brother, Brando Baccheschi-Berti leads all wine production. His knowledge, curated from a young age, is well-rooted in classical and family winemaking practices. Youngest brother, Corso Baccheschi-Berti’s passion for nature and conservation furthers the authenticity of Castello di Vicarello, ensuring all traditions and local resources are respected. The brothers take great pride in caring for the estate vineyards, gardens and surrounding landscapes; their efforts ensure they are crafting bespoke experiences that reflect their commitment to quality, history and genuine Italian hospitality.
